its latest AI web browser Atlas, OpenAI has revealed the purchase of Software Applications Incorporated along with its AI application Sky, developed by ex-Apple staff. Ari Weinstein and Conrad Kramer, the co-founders of SAI, played a vital role in the launch of Apple’s Shortcuts app, as Apple acquired their well-received product Workflow, an automation app for iOS, back in 2017.
Although Kramer departed from Apple in 2019 and Weinstein in 2023, they reunited to commence development on Sky. The application has yet to be publicized, but it is said to be a robust natural language interface for Mac, allowing AI to assist users in writing, planning, coding, or organizing their daily activities.
Consequently, OpenAI intends to merge Sky’s technology with ChatGPT to fully integrate it into macOS. “We are constructing a future where ChatGPT is not just a responder to your inputs, but it actively assists you in accomplishing tasks. Sky’s profound integration with the Mac enhances our ambition of incorporating AI directly into everyday tools,” states Nick Turley, VP & Head of ChatGPT.
