Following its Opera Browser Days in Lisbon and the introduction of the Browse Operator feature, which can handle web tasks on your behalf, the Norwegian firm has taken another step by launching an entirely new browser. This time, Opera Neon emphasizes agentic browsing while also serving as an AI “playground” for upcoming technologies.
As a reminder, Opera previously named a browser Neon a decade ago. Back then, it served as a concept browser. Now, the company is revisiting this conceptual method, this time with AI at its center.
According to the firm, Opera Neon represents its “first step towards fundamentally rethinking what a browser can be in the era of intelligent agents.” Beyond merely displaying web pages, Neon can browse on your behalf, take actions, and assist you in completing tasks.
Notably, Opera’s announcement follows closely on the heels of the Google I/O keynote, which unveiled a new AI shopping mode for the company’s online searches. Thus, the Norwegian company broadens the capabilities of a browser by integrating AI at its foundation.
Here are the three main features of Opera Neon:
**Opera Neon Chat:** Similar to the Aria experience familiar to Opera users, Opera Neon incorporates fully integrated AI that allows you to chat, search the web, provide contextual insights about a webpage, and more.
**Opera Neon Do:** Formerly known as Browser Operator, this is now a crucial component of the AI-agentic browser. This browser can interpret the textual representation of websites to grasp their content and engage with them on your behalf, performing tasks such as filling out forms, booking vacations, or even shopping.
