Pixel Watch 4 Unveils Updated Charging System, Continues to Lack Wireless Capability

**Pixel Watch 4 Renders Legacy Chargers Unnecessary, Yet Still Lacks Wireless Capability**

Recent information indicates that Google is finally departing from the magnetic pin charger previously utilized in earlier smartwatch versions with the launch of the Pixel Watch 4. However, if you were anticipating a completely wireless charging mechanism, you may need to be patient a little longer.

As per new images released by Android Headlines, Google is implementing significant modifications to the Pixel Watch 4. A key alteration highlighted in the new visuals is that the Pixel Watch 4 seems to have eliminated the frustrating magnetic pins of the Pixel Watch 3, which required precise alignment with the charger to power the watch.

While this news is welcome for many, since you won’t have to stress over meticulously aligning the pins for charging anymore, it doesn’t fulfill what numerous Pixel enthusiasts have been aspiring for: genuine wireless charging — which Google is reportedly fully committing to with the Pixel 10 series.

**Bid farewell to your old Pixel Watch charger**

Rather than depending on the pin connector system that Google has favored in recent versions, you’ll now need to charge your Pixel Watch 4 by placing it sideways in a small cradle-like charger. This marks a noteworthy shift from the traditional bottom-up design that many other well-known smartwatches have employed for years.

It seems the design aims to fully capitalize on the bedside charging clock system — akin to Apple’s Standby mode found on iPhones. Google has seemingly been developing a comparable system for Android in recent years, but it has yet to be officially unveiled.

Although the removal of the pin connector system is appreciated, the reality that Google hasn’t completely adopted wireless charging in its Pixel Watch lineup is somewhat disappointing for many. To make matters worse, any extra chargers purchased for the previous Pixel Watch will now be rendered useless, compelling you to invest in new chargers featuring the updated side cradle design. Fortunately, Android Headlines reports that Google will include the charger in the box when you buy the Pixel Watch 4. The report also mentions that altering the placement of the charging contacts should facilitate the repair of the new watch, granting tech support easier access to the back panel.

Naturally, these images are not entirely official announcements, so it’s conceivable that some aspects of this design could differ when the Pixel Watch 4 eventually debuts. If you have just acquired a Pixel Watch 3, however, you might not find a compelling reason to upgrade.
