As a current owner of the iPhone 16 Plus, I have grown to value its advantages while also acknowledging the difficulties associated with its larger design. This journey has led me to eagerly look forward to the anticipated **iPhone 17 Air**, which is said to promise a spacious screen in a sleeker and more convenient design.
## Reasons for Selecting the iPhone 16 Plus
As I approached the preorder season for the iPhone 16, I was sure that the Pro options did not interest me. I also preferred not to opt for smaller devices, such as the 6.1-inch iPhone 16 or the 6.3-inch iPhone 16 Pro. After years of using more compact Pro versions, I recognized my need for a larger display. It wasn’t merely about viewing more content while browsing or streaming; it was also about convenience. Inputting text on a 6.1-inch display had become progressively challenging for me.
Another significant aspect influencing my choice was battery performance. Larger phones, including the Plus and Pro Max variants, are equipped with more substantial batteries, resulting in prolonged usage times. My experience with the iPhone 14 Pro had already highlighted the advantages of a larger battery, and I was enthusiastic about achieving the same with the iPhone 16 Plus.

After several weeks of using the iPhone 16 Plus, I can assert that the larger display truly enhances the experience. Additionally, the battery life is remarkable—lasting approximately 36 hours on one charge, nearing two complete days.
Nonetheless, these advantages come with certain drawbacks.

The iPhone 16 Plus is quite hefty. Weighing 199 grams, it matches the weight of the smaller iPhone 16 Pro, but its size makes it feel much bulkier. While it is thinner than the Pro designs (7.80mm compared to 8.25mm), the overall heft can make it unwieldy to carry, especially when utilizing a case and screen protector for security.
Stashing the Plus in my pants’ pockets is frequently uncomfortable. I often need to take it out when I sit down or tie my shoes, and I find myself looking forward to getting home just to remove it from my pocket. Jogging with the phone during marathon training isn’t ideal either, even though it’s better than I initially anticipated.

A more slender iPhone would not only be simpler to manage but also comfier to carry in pockets. I’m even prepared to make some trade-offs to acquire a more streamlined device. I could relinquish features like the ultrawide camera or wireless charging if it meant obtaining a handset with a large screen and a sleek, lightweight form.
## Final Thoughts: Progressing Toward the Future
Although the iPhone 16 Plus provides an impressive display and remarkable battery life, its size renders it less feasible for daily use. The iPhone 17 Air, with its rumored sleek design, could achieve a perfect equilibrium between screen dimensions and portability. For users like myself who seek a large display without added bulk, the iPhone 17 Air can’t arrive soon enough.
In the meantime, I will keep enjoying the advantages of the iPhone 16 Plus, while also eyeing the future, holding onto the hope that Apple will release the ultra-slim iPhone I’ve been longing for.
