Bloomberg reports that Nintendo is considering increasing the cost of its newest hybrid console, which debuted on June 5, 2025, and is presently priced at $449. This decision is a reaction to the AI-induced chip scarcity, which could lead to price hikes for TVs, smartphones, computers, consoles, and other devices reliant on RAM.
The Switch 2 requires 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and with the industry facing what is being termed “RAMmagedon” without signs of relief, time may be running out to purchase the Switch 2 at its current rate. A CNBC report also indicated that Nintendo’s stock price dropped by 10% in early February 2026 after missing its quarterly revenue targets. Nevertheless, revenue surged by 86%; however, RAM shortages present an additional hurdle for Nintendo in 2026. President Shuntaro Furukawa expressed concerns regarding the profitability of the Switch 2 should RAM prices continue to rise.
