Repairing the Battery Charge Indicator on Nintendo Switch 2

It has been a relatively smooth rollout for the Nintendo Switch 2, particularly when contrasted with other recent gaming systems. However, one frustrating battery issue has affected enough initial users that Nintendo opted to publish a support guide to assist Switch 2 owners in resolving it. The problem pertains to the battery charge indicator of the Switch 2.

Switch 2 displays incorrect battery charge

From the very launch day, Switch 2 users reported that the battery charge indicator on the device did not consistently reflect the genuine level of charge left. For example, one Reddit user mentioned last Thursday that after their console indicated a battery percentage of 1%, they continued playing for an additional 30 minutes before the Switch 2 powered down.

As per Nintendo’s official site, the Switch 2 battery is expected to last between 2 to 6.5 hours, although the actual battery life can vary based on the games being played. Nevertheless, if your battery appears to drain more quickly than this estimate, Nintendo has a fix.

How to correct the Switch 2 battery charge indicator

Nintendo is aware that the battery reading and the true remaining battery usage do not align for some Switch 2 users. If you suspect your Switch 2 is facing this problem, follow the steps below when you have a moment:

1. Ensure you’re using a sufficiently powerful AC adapter to charge your console. (Just utilize the adapter that came bundled with the console — no need to improvise.)

2. Verify that your console has the latest system update. (Go to System Settings > System, and then select System Update.)

3. Turn off the console.

4. Press and hold the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons and tap the POWER Button once to switch the system on.

5. Continue holding the volume buttons until the Recovery Mode menu appears. Entering this menu should reset the battery level indicator.

6. Turn off the console again by pressing and holding the POWER Button until it shuts down.

7. Restart the console and observe the situation.

Nintendo advises that if this method doesn’t succeed on the first attempt, you may need to repeat the process to fix the issue. If the battery indicator and the actual charge level still do not align, it may be necessary to send your console to Nintendo for servicing.
