we aren’t even certain about what we desire from Marvel. That was exactly what transpired with one of the finest television series to ever make its way into the continuously growing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Before receiving its astonishingly positive reception, the show featuring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley reprising his role as Trevor Slattery, “Wonder Man,” underwent testing with audiences who weren’t pleased with their viewing experience.
On The Watch podcast, showrunner Andrew Guest discussed the moment he nearly panicked regarding the show’s prospects after receiving feedback from viewers who had seen the initial two episodes. “When we tested the first two episodes, which we conducted in front of an audience, it didn’t perform all that well because many viewers were baffled by the series,” Guest stated. “I thought, okay, now they’re going to suggest we change it.”
Fortunately, Marvel Studios supported Guest and the project he presented, although they concluded that the audience’s confusion wasn’t entirely unfounded. The problem was that what they attempted to present didn’t align with what the test audience experienced. Adjustments needed to be made, but “Wonder Man” in its entirety remained untouched by the revisions.
