The Verge, the upcoming controller may be a component of Microsoft’s initiative to expand its Xbox Cloud Gaming audience. The new controller is said to connect directly to the Cloud, potentially decreasing latency by linking straight to the game instead of routing through a console or other device. The existing selection of Xbox controllers only pairs with devices via Bluetooth or USB-C. Microsoft is allegedly nearing the launch of an advertisement-supported variant of Xbox Cloud Gaming, which could attract a larger group of mobile gamers. There are also speculations regarding a new Elite Controller 3, which is rumored to be released in 2026.
If the speculations hold true, the new Xbox controller could make its appearance as early as the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7. The showcase will present teasers of some of Xbox’s most significant first-party titles, including a Direct centered on the forthcoming prequel “Gears of War: E-Day”.
