Although deepfakes and mimicking have their place in media — as long as they aren’t promoting harmful products or frauds — there needs to be a method for creators to safeguard themselves, particularly as deepfakes evolve and the technology behind them becomes more sophisticated. This is why YouTube has introduced a new feature known as Likeness Detection.

The feature has reportedly been in the testing phase for some time, according to YouTube, but it’s now being rolled out to a broader audience of creators, enabling them to monitor any unauthorized use of their likeness across the platform. The objective of this feature is to assist in preventing the exploitation of creators’ images and voices to market products they don’t genuinely endorse, disseminate false information, and more.
