OpenAI’s Former Sora Executive Departs

Sora leader Bill Peebles and OpenAI’s VP of AI for Science are leaving the company. Last month, OpenAI abandoned its Sora video generation tool, and Bill Peebles, the leader of the Sora team, announced his departure. OpenAI is adjusting its priorities to focus more on coding and enterprise use, avoiding distractions. In a note on X, Peebles expressed gratitude for the research environment at OpenAI. Kevin Weil, the VP of AI for Science, is also leaving, citing decentralization into other research teams. OpenAI’s research-focused workspace, Prism, is closing, integrating into the Codex desktop app instead.
