Xbox Series X is a robust gaming system that offers endless entertainment possibilities. Although the value of Xbox Game Pass has diminished recently due to a price increase, the console remains home to numerous essential titles. Nonetheless, if you fail to clean your console every few months, it will begin to appear dirty. Is it really appealing to have friends over for some multiplayer gameplay in “Halo” with a messy console?
Microsoft suggests thoroughly cleaning your Xbox Series X/S every 3 to 6 months, though this guide isn’t set in stone. This brings up the issue of how to properly clean the console since some cleaning agents (like abrasive materials) can damage its finish or worse. Moisten a soft, lint-free cloth with a solution containing no more than 70% isopropyl alcohol, and wipe it over the surface of the console. Ensure you disconnect the Xbox before cleaning, and never apply liquid directly onto the console. If isopropyl alcohol is unavailable, a pre-moistened wipe with the same formulation (not disinfectant), a mixture of mild soap (like Dawn) and water, or Formula 409 All-Purpose Cleaner or Windex Glass Cleaner will suffice.
While you’re at it, you might also clean your controller and/or headset, as they should be maintained on a similar schedule. The same guidelines apply: Use a soft cloth with a 70% isopropyl alcohol solution or mild soap and water to wipe the surfaces of the peripherals. Again, ensure the device is powered off. If you only have Formula 409 or Windex, use a minimal amount.
