Mastering Homebrew and macOS Package Management with Mike McQuaid

2 Min Read

Homebrew is a popular package manager that streamlines the installation of open-source software on macOS. It was developed to meet the rising need for a lightweight, developer-friendly tool within the Mac-focused development community. Today, Homebrew is an indispensable component of the macOS software development toolkit.

Mike McQuaid became part of the project early on and worked closely with its creator, Max Howell. He joins the podcast with Kevin Ball to explore Homebrew’s beginnings, architecture, focus on automation and CI/CD, long-term sustainability, challenging trade-offs, and more.

Kevin Ball, or KBall, is the vice president of engineering at Mento and an independent coach for engineers and engineering leaders. He co-founded and served as CTO for two companies, founded the San Diego JavaScript meetup, and organizes the AI inaction discussion group through Latent Space.
