Dyson’s Back with a Travel-Size Supersonic Hairdryer

Ten years ago, Dyson launched the $400 Supersonic hairdryer, sparking a wave of innovation in hair technology. Now, they’re introducing a more compact and affordable travel-size version. The $299.99 Supersonic Travel model is designed for convenience on the go, whether for business trips or gym visits. According to Dyson, it’s 32 percent smaller and 25 percent lighter, making it a perfect fit for purses and carry-ons. It features the same core technology as the original Supersonic with the added ability to automatically adjust to the local voltage. Plus, it’s compatible with existing Supersonic attachments, while new ones are available separately.

This isn’t Dyson’s first enhancement to the Supersonic line. In 2024, the company launched the $569.99 Supersonic r, initially targeting professional hairstylists before becoming available to consumers. It featured a slimmer design to reduce wrist strain and had RFID attachments that automatically adjusted settings.

Since the original Supersonic’s debut, Dyson has expanded its hair care offerings. This includes various versions of the popular Airwrap curler, the Corrale straightener, and the Airstrait wet-to-dry hair straightener. These high-end devices have been celebrated on social media, inspiring similar products like the Shark Flexstyle. Competitors like L’Oréal have also entered the hair tech market with innovations such as the Colorsonic hair-dye wand and the AirLight Pro hairdryer.

Interestingly, Dyson’s exploration of the beauty sector now extends beyond devices, including hair oils, serums, styling creams, and scalp treatments.
