Everything about this game feels unhinged, and I want to be a part of it.
I’ve never been particularly drawn to Nintendo, yet its latest release, *Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream*, has completely captivated me. My interest is a mix of FOMO and fascination with the unconventional ways players are enjoying this game. It’s dominated my timeline and is weakening my resolve against buying a Switch.
*Living the Dream* is the third installment in Nintendo’s casual social simulators, reminiscent of *The Sims* or *Animal Crossing*. In this game, you manage an island inhabited by Miis, Nintendo’s customizable avatars. Unlike *Animal Crossing*, you create the islanders yourself, avoiding issues like housing discrimination or forced migration.
A major part of the game’s allure is its creation suite, allowing you to draw and integrate almost anything into the game. Additionally, a text-to-voice modulator lets Miis speak in a unique robotic cadence. You can even create TV shows for them to watch, attracting fans of diverse interests.
In short, it’s a perfect fit for the post-COVID, constantly online Gen Z. Just ask what happens when they get hold of your likeness.
Despite the game’s lack of genuine online functionality and Mii-sharing, it remains popular due to user-generated content going viral. My FOMO is real, and I’m eager to join in. I want my own island to see what drama unfolds among the characters I create. The internet is buzzing with excitement, and I plan to dive into the experience.
