Google’s Gemini AI Assistant is Hitting the Road in Millions of Vehicles

2 Min Read

Google announced its plans to roll out Gemini to cars with Google built-in, enhancing the current Google Assistant with advanced conversational AI for a better driving experience. This news follows GM’s recent announcement that Gemini will be available in about 4 million vehicles, including Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC models from 2022 and newer, though Google’s announcement does not specify automakers, indicating broader availability.

The rollout starts in the U.S. with English support and will expand in the coming months. Gemini is available for new and existing cars compatible with software updates, offering a more natural interaction for drivers. Users can perform tasks, explore ideas, and gather information seamlessly, such as finding restaurants or checking parking availability with data from Google Maps. Gemini also handles tasks like adjusting car settings, providing directions, recommending music, and summarizing messages for hands-free responses.

Gemini Live is in beta, supporting open-ended conversations initiated via a button or by saying, “Hey Google, let’s talk.” Drivers signed into Google accounts in compatible vehicles will be offered the upgrade, accessible via voice, the on-screen microphone, or steering wheel controls.

Google aims to expand Gemini to more languages and regions and plans deeper integrations with Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Home in future updates.
