A Chinese YouTuber has unveiled the latest foldable device, which closely resembles the rumored iPhone Fold. The iPhone Fold (or possibly the iPhone Ultra?) is not expected until at least September, but initial leaks suggest it will have a wider design than typical foldable phones. The global smartphone market is already moving towards similar designs, with Samsung rumored to launch a Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide model in July to rival Apple’s foldable. However, Chinese brand Huawei has beaten them both to the punch with the April 20th release of the Huawei Pura X Max, marking the beginning of the wide foldable era.
YouTuber Vincent Zhong has now shared an unboxing video providing a close-up of the new Huawei foldable. Titled “HUAWEI Pura X Max hands on: the foldable iPhone will look just like this,” the video shows the device’s impressive features. The iPhone Fold is speculated to have a 7.8-inch internal foldable OLED display and a 5.5-inch outer OLED display, making it noticeably wider than other foldables. The Huawei Pura X Max features a 7.7-inch internal display, a 5.4-inch external display, and rounded edges similar to those in alleged iPhone Fold leaks. As a result, the smartphone in Zhong’s video might closely resemble the first Apple foldable if the leaks are accurate.
Zhong comments in the video that it can’t really be described as “thin and light,” as it is a relatively large-screen foldable. However, the in-hand feel is excellent, making it comparable to a small vertical tablet like an iPad mini when open.
