Supergirls, extinguish your Lanterns. The most captivating character from the DC Universe receiving a fresh narrative could be Matt Hagen, known as Clayface (Tom Rhys Harries), who has just made his appearance in a brand-new and undeniably revolting trailer. Consider this a warning: those who are slightly squeamish and wish to steer clear of body horror might want to avert their gaze now.
Helmed by horror expert James Watkins (“Eden Lake,” “Speak No Evil”), the upcoming film — based on a script by Mike Flanagan (“Midnight Mass,” “The Haunting of Hill House”) and Hossein Amini — will illuminate one of Batman’s enduring adversaries and his origin story. Much like the Joaquin Phoenix-led “Joker,” “Clayface” serves as an origin tale that introduces us to Hagen, an aspiring performer whose fate is irrevocably altered after a gangster’s assault leaves him grotesquely disfigured.
In a quest for a solution, Hagen resorts to science, transforming into a clay-like being and granting himself the ability to change his form. Sadly, this transformation is no straightforward endeavor, as the teaser vividly suggests, reminiscent of some classic horror tales and heightening our anticipation for what lies ahead.
