Microchip Technology has unveiled the PIC16F132 and PIC18-Q35 8-bit MCU families, an enhancement over the PIC16F13145, combining traditional embedded control with on-chip Configurable Logic Blocks (CLB), offering CPLD-like programmable logic.

The PIC16F132x features 32 Basic Logic Elements (BLEs), whereas the PIC18-Q35 contains 128 BLEs. Both integrate security and voltage management features like Programming and Debugging Interface Disable (PDID) for anti-tamper protection and Multi-Voltage I/O (MVIO) for communication across voltage domains without external shifters. The CLB architecture, by performing logic functions in dedicated hardware, eases CPU load, lowers power consumption, and ensures deterministic operation, making it ideal for timing-sensitive roles like motor control, industrial automation, consumer electronics, and automotive safety.
