Retro-futuristic Handhelds: Reviving the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum

1 Min Read

The Spectrum and The C64 handheld devices, inspired by retro designs, each come with 25 unique classic games. Blaze Entertainment, known for the Evercade consoles, unveils these new portable gaming devices modeled after the ’80s Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. These handhelds focus solely on gaming, allowing expansion via a microSD card and connectivity to a keyboard and joystick over USB for a desktop experience. They are set to ship by October 2026, available for preorder at $129.99. While more costly than devices like Anbernic’s $48 RG28XX, their charm lies in their nostalgic design. Each handheld features a 4.3-inch 800×480 resolution screen, customizable controls, stereo speakers, a headphone jack, and a three-hour USB-C rechargeable battery. The Commodore 64 games include titles such as Boulder Dash, Aztec Challenge, and Nebulus, while the ZX Spectrum offers Manic Miner, Switchblade, and Starquake, among others.
