The robot vacuum maker claims it’s releasing a modular phone and luxury devices, but I’m skeptical. Dreame, a Chinese company famous for robot vacuums, now says it’s making smartphones. I’m doubtful. At its Next event in California, Dreame unveiled two phones; both had already been shown in China in March. Yet, neither has launched in any market, and only a few specs have been disclosed. The Aurora Nex LS1, intriguing but unlikely, is a modular phone with a magnetic attachment for modules like a triple camera, action camera, fan, satellite module, and “Smart Agent Module.” Though modular phones aren’t new, Dreame suggests the Nex LS1 will be available for purchase. The second phone, Aurora Lux, isn’t just one phone but a series with opulent designs, some coated in leather, others plated in gold, some with gemstones, and even an analog clock. Dreame’s press release claims 29 versions of Aurora Lux. Dreame has touted camera capabilities like a 200-megapixel sensor and Lofic HDR processing, seen only on the Honor Magic 8 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Ultra. It’s unclear which phones feature these specs, and it would be surprising if Dreame is debuting such high-end tech. Both phones will run Dreame’s Aurora AIOS, an AI-enhanced Android skin. Dreame hasn’t announced launch plans but intends to release AIOS in late 2026, hinting the phones will debut simultaneously. The Dreame event also showcased a rocket-boosted electric car, a laundry robot, and a TV with moving speakers, showing Dreame’s ambition.
