Jimmy Kimmel Responds to Marco Rubio’s Awkward Encounter with the Pope

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is experiencing an uncomfortable week. Initially, he oddly decided to quote rap lyrics while talking about the war in Iran. Now, he’s had a slightly awkward meeting with the Pope after the president criticized the religious leader on Truth Social.

“The president could have attended to meet the Pope, but they deemed it too risky — when he steps into a church, all the holy water begins to boil,” jokes Jimmy Kimmel in the clip above. “Thus, they sent little Marco to a summit that began on an awkward note.”

Kimmel proceeds to show footage of Rubio entering a room, shaking hands with Pope Leo XIV, exchanging a few brief words, and then posing for a solemn photo.

“Alright, good talk,” Kimmel quips. “That’s what Marco calls ‘vibing’ with someone. They resemble parents at their daughter’s wedding two months post-divorce.”
