We’re moving closer to phones operating automatically. Google is introducing new Gemini features ahead of its I/O Android event, designed to make phone usage more autonomous. Gemini will now be integrated into more areas, such as Chrome on Android, autofill suggestions, and apps. The new branding is Gemini Intelligence, bringing top features to advanced Android devices like the Galaxy S26 series.
One highlighted feature is task automation, already present on some Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones, which allows Gemini to operate certain apps autonomously. Currently limited, it will soon extend to more apps. Another update is multimodality, expanding beyond voice or text prompts to include image inputs for tasks, like converting a grocery list screenshot into a shopping cart list—applicable with compatible Android phones. A fresh feature under Gemini Intelligence is “Create My Widget,” introducing “generative UI,” where users describe desired widget functions in natural language for AI creation. These custom widgets will also be compatible with Wear OS watches.
Google is also implementing desktop Gemini features from Chrome into its Android app. Users will soon see a Gemini button for shared webpage content and browser queries. AI Pro or Ultra subscribers will receive auto browse capabilities for task completion by late June. Additionally, Gemini will appear in Android autofill, offering assistance by connecting to personal data from Google services, potentially using information like license plate numbers. These Gemini Intelligence features will be gradually released throughout the year, starting with Galaxy and Pixel devices in the summer.
