Mind Robotics, a spinoff from Rivian, has secured an additional $400 million just two months after previously raising $500 million to enhance its development of industrial automation robotics.

This funding round, initially reported by the Wall Street Journal, was led by Kleiner Perkins, with contributions from the venture arms of Volkswagen and Salesforce, both investors in Rivian’s software joint venture.

Rivian’s CEO, RJ Scaringe, who also chairs Mind Robotics, told TechCrunch in March that he established the company due to a belief that existing startups lacked the capacity to fully automate industrial processes. Initially called “Project Synapse,” the aim was to develop “robotics with human-like skills.”

Mind Robotics had previously secured $115 million from Eclipse upon its inception in 2025. The latest funding elevates the total raised to over $1 billion and values Mind Robotics at more than $3 billion, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Scaringe was also instrumental in founding and spinning off a micromobility company named Also, which has raised over $300 million to date.
