The newest iPhone update introduces several minor yet impactful features in iOS.

Apple has officially launched iOS 26.5. Here’s what’s new and how you can upgrade your iPhone.

The iOS 26.5 update for iPhone users is now officially available. The beta version had been accessible to developers for approximately a month, offering iPhone users a preview of the expected new features. As with previous iOS updates, features may be added or removed by the time the official version is released, and now we know the details of iOS 26.5.

To begin, iPhone users should update their devices to iOS 26.5. Besides new features, updating ensures the latest security updates are applied. Simply go to Settings, tap General, followed by Software Update, to upgrade to iOS 26.5.

Users need an iPhone 11 or newer to download and install iOS 26.5.

RCS end-to-end encryption

After updating to iOS 26.5, a lock icon will appear in RCS chats, signaling the introduction of encrypted RCS messaging. Previously, these messages between iPhone and Android devices were unencrypted and vulnerable to interception. iOS 26.5 finally introduces encryption for RCS messaging, though the feature is still labeled as a beta version, subject to mobile carrier support.

Apple Maps ads and Suggested Places

Thirteen and a half years after its launch, Apple Maps now includes advertisements. Businesses can pay to advertise within Apple Maps, similar to ads in Apple’s App Store. Users will see ads based on their location. Additionally, a new feature called Suggested Places will offer both paid and organic recommendations, showing nearby trending locations based on recent searches.

USB-C accessory pairing

Connecting a Magic Mouse or Magic Keyboard to an iPhone is simplified with iOS 26.5. By connecting the peripheral via USB-C, users can pair the devices with the iPhone. After the initial setup, users can use these devices over Bluetooth without additional setup.

iPhone to Android transfer options

A new option in iOS 26.5 allows users to select which message attachments they wish to transfer to an Android device, making the switch easier.

‘Pride Luminance’ wallpaper

iOS 26.5 includes a motion wallpaper celebrating Pride Month. The “Pride Luminance” wallpaper is animated, customizable, and matches the new Pride Luminance watch face for Apple Watch in watchOS 26.5. Users can create unique versions using the 12 available colors.
