George Clooney, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep Support New ‘Human Consent Standard’ for AI Licensing

1 Min Read

The new standard empowers individuals to set guidelines for how AI systems can utilize their images and creative outputs. Supported by Hollywood figures, it informs AI systems if compensation is needed for using a person’s likeness, creative work, or designs. With the Human Consent Standard, people can dictate terms of use, offering full permission, conditional access, or complete restriction. Overseeing this initiative is RSL Media, co-founded by Cate Blanchett. Prominent supporters include George Clooney, Viola Davis, Tom Hanks, and Meryl Streep, among others. Eckart Walther, RSL Media’s cofounder, explains that this standard functions globally for the work, identity, or character, not just content found on specific URLs. AI systems will verify declarations via a registry starting in June, allowing individuals to authenticate their identity and specify usage permissions. This will be converted into readable signals for AI systems. Some artists and actors have preemptively addressed unauthorized use, with Matthew McConaughey and Taylor Swift trademarking personal elements. Through RSL Media’s launch, anyone can set permissions for their work. This free technology stands as an industry-first to give everyone—not just public figures—control over AI use of their creations.
