Swedish startup Pit, known for its provocative social media presence, is gaining attention as a noteworthy AI company in Stockholm.
Founded by the creators of the European scooter giant Voi, including CEO Fredrik Hjelm, Pit has brought on former engineers from iZettle and Klarna. The company has secured $16 million in seed funding from a16z, highlighting Stockholm as a critical hub for potential unicorn companies in Europe.
Focused on enterprise AI, Pit offers tools designed to learn client’s processes and automate them with customized solutions, as stated by CEO Adam Jafer to TechCrunch.
After a seven-year stint at Voi, Jafer, who observed AI’s maturity for enterprise application, left to pursue what he saw as a substantial opportunity beyond Voi’s capabilities.
“The aha moment was when AI models became capable of more than generating text, evolving into proactive agents,” Jafer explained, noting that Pit offers an “AI product team as a service.”
The startup stands out with two main features: Pit Studio, allowing automation of enterprise processes, and Pit Cloud, offering these solutions with a focus on governance and compliance.
Since mid-January, Pit has piloted its solutions in sectors like telecom and healthcare, focusing on back-office automation to refocus human effort on key business functions.

Preparing to commercialize, Pit plans to employ solution engineers to meet its clients’ demands for increased productivity, rather than focusing on reducing workforce.
Jafer emphasized that Pit aims to elevate the workforce to more meaningful roles instead of routine tasks, aiming for improvements beyond time and cost savings.
A LinkedIn controversy arose when Jafer claimed the team didn’t include junior engineers, but he later acknowledged the need for a balanced team as the company grows.
Hjelm addressed potential concerns over the founding team’s composition by clarifying on social media that the company includes women, though they weren’t initially visible on LinkedIn.
Reuniting Voi’s founding team, Pit includes Hjelm, Jafer, and Filip Lindvall, along with new members like Fredrik Hjelm’s brother, Andreas.
Fredrik Hjelm, while still Voi’s CEO, will not actively oversee Pit, but his reputation and connections, such as with a16z, are advantageous.
Pit’s funding round, backed by key investors like Lakestar and affluent Nordic families, underscores Stockholm’s growing role as a tech hub.
Pit is set to capitalize on its European roots, catering to industrial sectors, and leveraging its flexibility with AI and cloud solutions amidst rising demand for sovereign tech in Europe.
“EU models on EU infrastructure are critical for many CIOs we engage with,” Jafer noted.
