Google I/O is approaching, signaling another Android Show event to reveal all the Android ecosystem highlights from Google. This year’s Android Show highlighted Googlebooks, a new line of laptops running Android. These laptops can cast apps from Android phones, pull files directly from a connected Android device, and offer contextual AI suggestions using a mouse pointer. Google states the first of these Chromebook successors will arrive this fall.

Google also showcased new features coming in Android 17, including 3D emoji, custom AI-generated widgets, expanded access to Quick Share/AirDrop, the “Rambler” AI transcription tool, and a new “Pause Point” feature for screen time management. Additionally, Android Auto received its biggest update in 10 years, with better support for different screen sizes and shapes, support for Material 3 Expressive and widgets, the ability to stream content from YouTube to a car’s screen, and more.

Key highlights of the Gemini features announced during Google’s pre-I/O Android showcase include improvements like integration into Chrome, autofill suggestions, and apps. The new name “Gemini Intelligence” offers enhanced features reserved for premium Android phones, such as the Galaxy S26 series.

Adobe’s updated Premiere video editing app will be available on Android this summer, featuring Android-exclusive templates and effects for YouTube Shorts. Instagram’s Edits app will also introduce Android-exclusive tools, such as AI upscaling and automatic audio track separation.

Android 17 is packed with new AI-enabled features, including improved dictation and vibe-coded widgets, but also features non-AI updates like an emoji overhaul and a new screen time tool.

Google announced a new line of laptops called Googlebooks, expected this fall. Running on a new operating system based on a fusion of Android and ChromeOS, teased to launch along with the official branding later this year.
