Meta is centralizing parental controls for all its apps in the Family Center hub. Starting Tuesday, parents can gain insights into their teens’ activities on Instagram. Meta introduces a Teen Accounts feature, showing parents the general topics their teens are interested in, such as “basketball” or “fashion.” Parents will soon be notified when new interests are added to their teen’s algorithm. The “Your Algorithm” feature, announced in December, allows users to choose topics of interest on Instagram. Teen Accounts have restrictions on topics they can add, aligning content with a PG-13 rating. On Tuesday, Meta announced the consolidation of parental controls for Instagram, Meta Horizon, Facebook, and Messenger into a single hub within Family Center. Parents can now send one invitation to supervise their teen across all these apps. More supervisory tools, including “aggregated time spent,” will be added to Family Center in the coming months.
