Before the Google I/O 2026 event, much anticipation has built around Google’s Android XR smart glasses. Google’s concept for the smart glasses, revealed at the previous I/O, features AI-powered augmented reality integrated into the glasses, complete with cameras, microphones, and speakers. Collaborations with brands like Warby Parker and Gentle Monster are expected to bring varied styles to the market.
Since the concept reveal, Google has been developing multiple models of Android XR smart glasses. The first model, akin to Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses, includes a camera, speakers, and a microphone, and can interact with Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, but lacks a display. The second model comes with an in-glasses display for visual information like captions for translations and navigation directions.
Both models operate on Android XR, Google’s smart glass operating system that debuted with Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset. The non-display model is slated for release this year, with more details anticipated at Google I/O. However, Google has not disclosed launch details for the model with in-glasses display, which may be revealed at the event.
