Google Search is set to receive several new AI-driven features, including an AI Search Box and Search agents. Announced during Google I/O 2026, the updates aim to enhance the user experience with advanced AI capabilities.
AI Mode in Google Search has grown significantly, now boasting over 1 billion monthly users. Google revealed forthcoming enhancements, such as the Gemini 3.5 Flash upgrade for AI Mode. The AI Search Box will be the first major update in 25 years, expanding to allow natural language queries and the ability to upload various media for context.
AI Overviews will allow for interactive queries similar to an AI chatbot. New AI Search agents will enable users to input detailed queries, where agents will continually gather updated information from multiple sources.
Google’s Search agents can assist with tasks like apartment hunting by tracking new listings that meet users’ specified criteria. These features will be available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers by summer. Agentic AI tools will also support shopping and booking, ensuring users receive the most current pricing and availability.
Additionally, Google is expanding Personal Intelligence, allowing users to link personal apps for more contextual search results. Google is introducing AI coding tools for creating custom projects, targeting non-developers. More information on these announcements is available on Mashable’s Google I/O live blog.
