Anthropic informed its investors that it anticipates more than doubling its revenue to approximately $10.9 billion in the second quarter, marking its first time achieving an operating profit, according to the Wall Street Journal.
This represents a significant milestone and rapid quarter-over-quarter growth, potentially positioning it ahead of its main competitor, OpenAI. However, WSJ notes that sustained profitability throughout the year may be challenging due to upcoming substantial compute expenses.
These financial details were disclosed to investors during a funding round.
The company’s popularity has risen over the past year, as more professionals have shown a preference for its chatbot, Claude. Additionally, it has recently aimed to broaden its customer base by launching a new service for small businesses and tools for law firms.
Coincidentally, the information about Anthropic’s potential profitability emerged on the same day news broke about OpenAI possibly filing for an IPO soon. Anthropic declined further comment.
