Amazon Launches AI Shopping Assistant for Search Bar, Powered by Alexa

2 Min Read

Amazon is integrating AI into the shopping experience with the launch of “Alexa for Shopping,” a new personalized AI shopping assistant driven by Alexa+. This new feature will replace Rufus, the generative AI shopping assistant introduced in 2024. Alexa for Shopping offers a voice and touch-enabled experience across mobile, desktop, and Echo Show devices, providing more personalized recommendations and automating shopping on Amazon and other online retailers. Available to U.S. customers, Alexa for Shopping can answer queries like “What’s a good skincare routine for men?” or “When did I last order AA batteries?” Users can input questions in the main search bar or a dedicated chat window, receiving tailored answers, recommendations, and custom shopping guides. Amazon claims it learns from customers’ habits, preferences, and purchase history to deliver a more personalized shopping experience. Alexa for Shopping can also compare products, track prices, and schedule recurring orders for essentials. Users can ask Alexa to add items to the cart when prices drop. Additionally, the assistant can shop at other online stores with its “Buy for Me” feature, raising some concerns about AI autonomy and privacy. This launch follows Amazon’s introduction of its “Amazon Now” 30-minute delivery service across several U.S. cities, and a new AI feature that provides real-time conversational audio responses on product pages.
