Amazon’s first genuine competitor to Samsung’s The Frame now has a release date. The Amazon Ember Artline, a 4K QLED TV capable of displaying artwork, is set to launch in the U.S. on Wednesday, April 22, as stated in a company press release. Preorders are currently available.
The Ember Artline is available in 55-inch ($899.99) and 65-inch ($1,099.99) sizes, with an option of 10 interchangeable frame colors.
Originally unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Amazon announced a rebranding of its smart TVs under the “Ember” moniker. The Fire TV name will still be used for Amazon’s TV interface, streaming media players, and soundbars. Amazon’s TV listings have since been updated to the new branding.
Owners of the Ember Artline gain access to over 2,000 free art pieces:
There is no additional cost or subscription needed to access the vast array of free art on the Amazon Ember Artline. Our collection features works from various artistic movements, including Impressionist classics by Monet, Degas, and Renoir, along with contemporary street art, murals, mixed media, and photography. Additionally, customers can enjoy 60 exclusive motion video pieces by documentary filmmaker Sam Nuttmann, captured across diverse global landscapes.
If unsure about which art pieces complement your space, the Ember Artline can make suggestions through its AI-powered “Match the Room” feature. By scanning a QR code and uploading room photos, the TV will suggest artwork based on your room’s color and decor theme.
The TV also supports displaying slideshows and collages of personal photos via a connection to Amazon Photos.
Notably, Ember Artline is the only Amazon TV with a matte finish, making it appear more like genuine artwork.
Positioned as “Amazon’s first lifestyle TV,” the Ember Artline is a lower-priced alternative to Samsung’s The Frame, a premium TV that doubles as art. Other competing models like the Hisense CanvasTV and TCL NXTVISION TV are priced at $999.99 and $1,299.99 for 55-inch models, respectively.
In 2022, Amazon updated the more affordable Fire TV Omni QLED Series (now Ember QLED Series) with an “Ambient Experience” allowing it to display art or photos, although it lacks a matte finish and a picture-frame-like bezel, making the Ember Artline the first true Frame alternative from Amazon.
Despite some drawbacks like no Dolby Atmos support and a basic 60Hz refresh rate, making it less suitable for gamers, the Ember Artline’s free library of art makes it compelling. The Frame’s full library of over 5,000 pieces requires a Samsung Art Store subscription. The Hisense and TCL models hold smaller art libraries.
The Ember Artline comes with a custom wall mount, with optional legs available for $19.99, and extra frames starting at $74.99 each.
