Anthropic is reaching out to smaller businesses with the introduction of Claude for Small Business, aimed at clients more akin to local hardware stores or coffee shops rather than giants like Walmart and Starbucks. Historically, AI adoption has been more prevalent among large enterprises, but this trend is shifting as smaller and midsized businesses increasingly embrace AI technology.
Anthropic’s new service package is tailored to these emerging AI users. It’s accessible through a setting in Claude Cowork, Anthropic’s task-automation platform that handles web browsing, file management, and complex workflows. Activating this feature gives paying customers access to automated services like bookkeeping, business insights, and tools for creating ad campaigns.
The service suite also offers connections between Claude Cowork and various software tools such as QuickBooks, Canva, Docusign, HubSpot, and PayPal.
“Small businesses represent 44% of U.S. GDP and employ nearly half the private workforce, yet their AI usage trails behind large companies,” Anthropic stated. “AI tools and training often aren’t designed for small business operations, limiting their use to basic applications.”
This initiative suggests that the AI industry is targeting smaller businesses as the next key market, beyond the major corporations in the Fortune 500. With 36 million small businesses in the U.S., they are a critical part of the economy.
Anthropic is trailing competitors like OpenAI, which launched Enterprise ChatGPT and ChatGPT Business for smaller teams in late 2023.
To promote its offerings, Anthropic plans a nationwide promotional tour, starting in Chicago and touching 10 cities, where they’ll provide free AI training workshops for 100 local small business leaders at each location.
