According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple testers are currently using prototypes. The rumored AirPods with cameras are close to early mass production testing. The prototypes are in the design validation test stage, a step before production validation. These cameras aren’t for taking photos or videos but rather to capture low-resolution visual data for Siri queries, such as cooking suggestions. The cameras may also assist with directions. These AirPods will resemble the AirPods Pro 3 but with longer stems to accommodate the camera tech. An LED will indicate when data is sent to the cloud. The initial launch was planned for early 2026 but was delayed. The AirPods might debut alongside an upgraded Siri expected in September. Apple’s AI initiative may position it against Meta and OpenAI, with plans for smart glasses and an AI pendant by early 2027, per Gurman.
