Data Breach at French Government Agency Managing Citizen IDs Confirmed

1 Min Read

The French agency responsible for managing identity documents, including IDs and passports, reported a data breach. The Agence Nationale des Titres Sécurisés (ANTS) announced that the breach might involve names, birth details, addresses, and contact information of an unspecified number of citizens. An investigation is ongoing, and affected individuals are being informed.

ANTS detected the breach on April 15 but hasn’t revealed how many were affected. Reports suggest millions might be impacted. Bleeping Computer reported a hacker offering the data, claiming to have 19 million records, which matches the information ANTS confirmed as stolen. This claim appeared before ANTS disclosed the breach on April 20.
