A judge is set to decide on whether Ticketmaster and Live Nation should be separated. Live Nation, the company behind Ticketmaster, violated antitrust laws, as determined by a federal jury. The judge could enforce a split of the companies, as reported by the New York Times, along with monetary penalties. For years, the industry has awaited this decision following a 2024 federal complaint accusing Live Nation of monopolistic practices, such as exclusive contracts and financial threats to venues and artists. This issue gained attention due to high ticket prices for popular tours and artist complaints, with significant fan involvement. Live Nation has faced other legal issues, such as a recent Federal Trade Commission lawsuit. Although they recently settled with the Justice Department, 34 states continued the case, aiming for a major industry change.
