Are your hobbies worth a cinema-grade premium?

GoPro’s new Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro cameras are priced at $599.99 and $699.99, with a $100 discount for subscribers to its ecosystem. This pricing may appeal to professional filmmakers, but it’s likely a tough sell for casual users. You can now reserve the Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro and receive a free Point-and-Shoot Grip accessory (while supplies last) before their release on May 28th. The Mission 1 Pro ILS, which features an interchangeable mount for Micro Four Thirds lenses and adapters, will be available in Q3 for $699.99, or $599.99 for subscribers.

GoPro accessories like the new Wireless Mic System and Media Mod are listed for $159.99 and $149.99, respectively, while the new 2150mAh Enduro 2 battery is $34.99. The Mission cameras, built around a 50MP 1-inch sensor and GoPro’s GP3 processor, are being marketed as the “world’s smallest, lightest, and most durable high resolution, high frame rate cinematic camera system.” However, these high-spec cameras may be overkill for amateur creators looking to capture a mountain bike run or a weekend snowboarding trip.

Amateur creators might find better value in older, heavily discounted GoPro models like the Hero 13 or Hero 12. Alternatively, the DJI Osmo Action 6 retails for under $400, and the Insta360 X5 is priced around $550.
