LAIKA, the animation studio known for films like Coraline, ParaNorman, and Kubo and the Two Strings, has unveiled the teaser trailer for its new film, Wildwood. Directed by Travis Knight (Kubo and the Two Strings) and inspired by Colin Meloy’s novel, Wildwood brings viewers to Portland, Oregon, and a nearby magical realm.
The story follows Prue McKeel, a determined teenager voiced by Peyton Elizabeth Lee, who defies her parents by leaving home with her baby brother. After crows abduct him, she must venture into the Impassable Wilderness, a mystical forest teeming with talking creatures and treacherous bandits. Partnered with her classmate Curtis Mehlberg (voiced by Jacob Tremblay), Prue must navigate this dangerous world to save her brother.
Previously, LAIKA provided a glimpse of Wildwood with a focus on the General, a golden eagle voiced by Angela Bassett. The latest teaser expands on this, revealing animal armies, ominous witches, and a mysterious clockwork boy, presented in captivating stop-motion animation.
The voice cast of Wildwood includes Carey Mulligan, Richard E. Grant, Awkwafina, Amandla Stenberg, Tom Waits, Charlie Day, Blythe Danner, Arthur Knight, Maya Erskine, Jake Johnson, Tantoo Cardinal, Rob Delaney, Jemaine Clement, Marc Evan Jackson, Len Cariou, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, and Mahershala Ali.
Wildwood debuts in theaters on Oct. 23.
