The new workspace agents can independently handle tasks like reporting on product feedback via the cloud. OpenAI is introducing these cloud-based “workspace” agents for Business, Enterprise, Edu, and Teachers plan users, capable of performing business tasks within ChatGPT. According to OpenAI’s blog, examples include an agent finding product feedback online and delivering a Slack report, and a sales agent drafting follow-up emails in Gmail. These agents are part of a growing interest in AI agents, influenced by the viral OpenClaw, and face competition from Anthropic’s Claude Cowork agent and its platform for creating autonomous agents. OpenAI’s workspace agents can be used collaboratively within organizations, designed to gather context, follow team processes, seek approval when necessary, and facilitate workflow across tools. These agents may replace OpenAI’s “GPTs,” with OpenAI describing them as an “evolution.” GPTs will stay available during the workspace agents’ testing phase, with plans to simplify converting GPTs into workspace agents. When contacted, OpenAI spokesperson Taya Christianson referred back to the blog post without offering further details.
