Sony unveiled its latest high-resolution flagship camera, the A7R VI, featuring a fully stacked sensor with 66.8 megapixels and up to 16 stops of dynamic range, offering faster readout speed, improved burst rates, silent shooting, and enhanced video capabilities. Priced at $4,499.99, it’s set to release in June, reflecting a $600 price hike over its predecessor, the A7R V. This model incorporates several new features and improvements, including Sony’s AI-based autofocus system, Real-time Recognition AF+, a new 9.44 million dot OLED viewfinder, illuminated buttons, and a redesigned grip to house a new NP-SA100 battery with a 710-shot capacity. The A7R VI supports continuous blackout-free burst shooting at 30 frames per second and records 8K video and 4K at up to 120p, with dual gain options for noise reduction and shadow detail preservation. It also includes in-body stabilization of up to 8.5 stops and dual USB-C ports. The A7R VI’s price increase aligns with other flagship models like the A1 II and A9 III, offering a comparatively affordable option for photographers prioritizing high resolution.
