Spotify to adopt Apple’s new video podcast tech, offering creators easier cross-platform distribution

Spotify announced plans to adopt Apple’s HLS (HTTP Live Streaming) video technology to enhance video podcasts on Apple Podcasts. This move, which allows Spotify-hosted shows to distribute and monetize video podcasts on Apple Podcasts, expands creators’ reach without altering their current setups. HLS technology adjusts video quality based on network speed, ensuring a smooth viewing experience despite varying connection strengths. These upgrades will roll out later this year, alongside new monetization options like direct sales and partner integrations. Podcast creators using platforms like Libsyn, Podigee, Audioboom, Audiomeans, and Podspace can now publish video podcasts directly on Spotify and earn through its Partner Program. Spotify’s improvements in video podcasting aim to engage more viewers and reinforce its position in the podcast sector. Since launching video podcasts in 2020, the platform has made significant strides, including reducing monetization requirements. By November 2025, nearly half a million shows and over 390 million users had streamed a video podcast on Spotify.
