When you put your car into reverse, it’s critical that the rearview camera shows what’s happening behind you in real-time, not with a delay. Unfortunately, a significant number of Teslas are at risk of failing this essential task. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Wednesday that Tesla is recalling 218,868 vehicles in the U.S. due to a problem where the rearview camera display might be delayed “for up to 11 seconds” when the car is put into reverse.

The recall affects various Model 3, Model Y, Model S, and Model X vehicles. Tesla has already addressed the issue through an over-the-air software update, so owners only need to accept the update.

Interestingly, this isn’t Tesla’s first recall over rearview camera problems. In 2024, the company recalled nearly 200,000 Model S, Model Y, and Model X vehicles due to a bug that could prevent the rearview camera image from displaying.
