The top Apple laptop for most users is now available for under $950. As of May 7, the Apple MacBook Air (M5, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD) is on sale for $949 at Amazon, marking a $150 discount from its regular price. This is its lowest recorded price.

When Mashable Tech Editor Tim Beck Werth evaluated Apple’s latest MacBook Air, he described it as a “near-perfect machine” that’s “too powerful for its own good.” It’s very similar to the M4 Air but features Apple’s M5 chip and initially costs $1,099. Werth wished for it to be priced at $899 or $949, which has now materialized with this deal.

Aside from a faster processor and more base storage, the 2026 model now includes the N1 wireless chip, supporting WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and is configurable with up to 4TB of storage. The rest of the specifications are similar to the previous generation, featuring a 60Hz Liquid Retina display, a 12MP Center Stage webcam, dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, and an 18-hour battery life.

While this isn’t an essential upgrade if you own an M3 or M4 MacBook Air, it’s an excellent choice for anyone using an older MacBook or looking to enter the Apple ecosystem. According to Werth, at this price, it’s hard to resist.
