AI is everywhere, with companies rushing to monetize their generative AI investments. Many users feel overwhelmed by the constant introduction of AI features. The latest? A TikTok feature called “Remixes,” allowing users to be automatically turned into digital memes.
TikTok creators found “Remixes” within account settings. This feature enables viewers to generate images and text-based memes from any public content. Its introduction without notice raised privacy and consent concerns, prompting users to question its origin and seek ways to disable it quickly.
Days later, TikTok confirmed to CNET that Remixes is real but still experimental, available only to select creators during testing. The company assured that users’ content wouldn’t be used for AI training, under new guidelines by its U.S.-based owners. However, skepticism remains, with concerns about impersonation and content theft.
This isn’t TikTok’s first AI endeavor. The company introduced its AI assistant, Tako, and its “AI Self” tool, allowing users to create AI versions of themselves for content. Earlier, OpenAI was ordered to rebrand its similar Sora feature called Cameos.
How to disable TikTok AI Remixes:
TikTok’s default AI remix setting requires manual adjustments for each public post to prevent remixing. Here’s how:
Step 1: Go to your TikTok profile
Step 2: Click on a TikTok post or video
Step 3: Tap the three dots in the bottom right corner
Step 4: Go to the bottom row of icons, scroll right, select “Privacy Settings”
Step 5: Toggle off “Allow AI to remix content”
