features Apple unveiled at WWDC 2024 included a more intelligent Siri powered by Apple Intelligence, anticipated to debut alongside the rollout of iOS 18.
However, the technology firm encountered a hurdle and was compelled to postpone some Siri Apple Intelligence functionalities, even opting to retract associated advertisements. Nevertheless, the company’s decisions landed it in hot water as a lawsuit was initiated, accusing it of misleading advertising. Per the lawsuit, the firm promoted these enhanced Siri capabilities, establishing “a clear and reasonable consumer expectation that these innovative features would be accessible at the iPhone’s launch,” which subsequently “generated unparalleled excitement in the marketplace.”
The lawsuit alleged that Apple infringed consumer legislation by marketing its products based on features that “were either nonexistent or materially misrepresented.” For example, Apple’s iPhone 16 advertisements touted AI functionalities that were not available. The American tech giant came to a consensus to resolve the lawsuit in December 2025, as per court documents, and as part of the agreement, it refuted any misconduct and consented to pay a total of $250 million to iPhone users, concluding numerous class action lawsuits that had been consolidated the previous year. The company informed MacRumors that it reached a settlement to “remain concentrated on doing what we excel at.”
