Google introduces a new laptop line called Googlebooks, set for release in the fall, with no hardware available yet. This announcement, part of the Android Show, hints at a significant venture in the laptop market. Googlebooks aim to replace Chromebooks with devices running a new operating system, a blend of Android and ChromeOS. This OS, currently codenamed Aluminium, hasn’t been officially named. Googlebooks, based on Android, will support Chrome, run Android apps, and feature direct phone app access. They will include Gemini Intelligence and an AI-driven Magic Pointer for contextual suggestions. While many details about Googlebooks, like design, specs, and pricing, remain unknown, Google partners with Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo. The rendered images hint at a signature Googlebooks feature: a glowing light bar. Google’s Peter Du confirmed that Chromebooks will continue to receive support and updates. More information is awaited through future leaks or announcements.
