On Friday, OpenAI introduced a new suite of personal finance tools for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the U.S., allowing account connections for inquiries on spending analysis and financial planning.

OpenAI has teamed up with Plaid to facilitate account links. Users can connect to over 12,000 financial institutions, such as Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One. After connecting, users access a dashboard displaying their portfolio performance, spending, subscriptions, and upcoming payments.

This product follows OpenAI’s acquisition of the personal finance startup Hiro in April, backed by Ribbit, General Catalyst, and Restive. OpenAI cited Hiro’s financial acumen as beneficial in launching these tools but didn’t confirm if the entire development was by their team.

Users can access the feature by selecting “Get started” under the “Finances” tab in the sidebar or typing “@Finances, connect my accounts” in ChatGPT, with Plaid handling the connection process. OpenAI plans to add support for Intuit, enabling capabilities like evaluating the tax impact of a stock sale or likelihood of credit card approval.

As per OpenAI, over 200 million users already pose financial queries to ChatGPT monthly. The new GPT-5.5 model excels in contextual reasoning, essential for finance topics. OpenAI collaborated with financial experts to calibrate the model for personal finance questions.

The integration allows users to ask detailed inquiries, such as evaluating spending habits or creating a five-year home-buying plan.

To disconnect accounts, users can go to Settings > Apps > Finances, with data removal following in 30 days. Users can also manage or erase financial memories from the Finances page.

Generalized chatbots often field questions on sensitive topics like finance, prompting AI companies to create specialized tools. OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity have all launched sector-specific products recently.

OpenAI’s personal finance tools are accessible on ChatGPT’s web and iOS platforms for Pro users. The company aims to refine the product based on user feedback before expanding to Plus users.
