Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia – May 2026

Medad Library has achieved recognition as a DataCite Registered Service Provider, revolutionizing institutional repositories. The integration of Medad Digital Assets Repository (DAR) with DataCite’s global network transforms Medad from a repository solution into a vital part of the global research infrastructure. Institutions in the Middle East and North Africa can now easily register DataCite Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) and connect their research outputs worldwide by becoming a DataCite member.

This recognition underscores Medad DAR’s adherence to global research infrastructure standards, including DOI registration, metadata interoperability, and persistent identification processes, enabling data to be stored, structured, and globally accessible. Through DOIs, research outputs are discoverable and traceable across international scholarly networks, enhancing visibility and impact.

In line with FAIR data principles, Medad DAR supports structured data governance and long-term preservation, transitioning organizations from disjointed data handling to integrated research environments, advancing open science and research visibility.

A Connected Research Ecosystem, not a Standalone Repository

Medad DAR operates within the Medad Library Services Platform (LSP), offering an integrated environment for managing digital assets, library services, and research outputs. This seamless system supports the entire data lifecycle and global infrastructure interoperability.

Medad’s evolution strengthens the region’s global knowledge economy role, increasing visibility, improving rankings, and fostering international collaboration. Dr. Ahmad Alhusainy, Medad Platforms Director, expressed pride in Medad’s achievement as DataCite’s first Registered Service Provider in the Middle East, reflecting a commitment to enhancing regional research infrastructure.

Maria Gould, Director of Strategic Programs & Partnerships at DataCite, welcomed Medad, emphasizing the opportunity for Middle Eastern and North African research organizations to connect to DataCite infrastructure and expand their outputs’ visibility.

Naseej and Medad’s broader institutional shift from managing information to stewarding knowledge reinforces digital ecosystems’ governance, integrity, and responsibility.
