Truecaller Enters eSIM Market to Broaden Revenue Sources

1 Min Read

Truecaller, known for its caller ID services, has introduced eSIM services for travelers, aiming to strengthen its financial standing and broaden its business amid declining ad revenues. The service will offer plans ranging from 1 GB for 7 days to 20 GB for 30 days and will initially be available in 29 countries, including Italy, Sweden, Spain, France, Germany, and more. Notably absent is India, due to its strict telecom regulations. Truecaller is partnering with Telna and Telness Tech to provide this eSIM platform. Unlike other eSIM providers, Truecaller plans to leverage its existing user base of over 500 million, as mentioned by COO Fredrik Kjell. This initiative arrives at a challenging time for Truecaller, which recently cut 70 jobs following disappointing Q1 2026 results, with net sales falling 27% and ad revenues dropping 44%. The company is focusing on increasing subscription revenues with features like AI Assistant and Family Protection, as additional services like eSIM can offer new revenue streams. eSIM adoption is rising due to travel and device compatibility, and investors are eyeing eSIM startups, with several raising millions in recent months.
